Transfer Call Woes

My web connection has just been converted from copper wire (with Plus.Net) to full fibre with EE.

A call came in earlier today which I answered using a phone plugged in to a digital voice unit that plugs into a mains power socket.

I then wanted to pick up the call on a walkabout DECT phone, so that the caller could speak to someone who was peeling veg next to the kitchen sink. The DECT phone has a hand-free facility which makes it easy to talk whilst the phone is on the side next to you. It connects to the router via  a base station that is plugged into the router.

To my surprise the DECT phone would not join the conversation, Instead I was offered a dialling tone.

How strange - was this a malfunction and if not how do I start a call with one phone and end it with another phone?

You can only transfer calls between phones connected to the same base station. Were you able to do this when you were with PN? What you are seeing/hearing is the ability to have 2 simultaneous calls on the same line.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

Hmm, thanks for the reply, that is very interesting information.

With Plus.Net the copper wire system was basically the same as always existed decades ago, even when BT was known as Post Office Telecommunications. So, yes, picking up any phone allowed you to join the conversation.

The way I understand things is that another Digital Voice adaptor is coming to me and I might use that instead of plugging the DECT phones in to the router.

Somewhere in the loft I have a two line telephone. This dates from the days when this house had two phone lines with one mostly reserved for dial-up Internet. If full fibre means that I am going to have two lines it might be an idea to get that phone out, again, and plug the other line in to the router socket.
