Smart devices bypassing disc

I received my new smart router and wifi discs yesterday. I’ve managed to connect all the smart devices in the house but they are all connecting to the router instead of the closer disc despite having a ‘poor’ connection to the router.

Oddly enough all the Apple devices seamlessly connect to which ever the closest device is.

Is there anyway I can encourage the smart devices with poor connection to connect to the discs instead? I have tried turning off the router, waiting for them to connect to the disc and then turning the router on. They then revert back to connection to the router once turned on.

@Alza  Can you try moving the smart item closer to the disk ?   I’ve not had any issues where the device would only choose the router over the disk.   I do  occasional get my living room Apple TV connect to the disk when the router is the closer of the 2 but the network connection is still excellent when I look at the EE Home App.

Do the disks provide both 2.4 & 5 GHz WiFi bands? Smart home devices tend to prefer or are only 2.4 GHz. Try switching off the 5 GHz band temporarily before connecting Smart home devices.

Yes I turned off the 5 GHZ band to get them connected initially. If I hadn’t done that there would be no connection at all.

The disks have no information on the bands being used within the settings.

The smart bulbs are in the same room as the disc (within 2m). The router is downstairs.
