Smart Hub plus 7 - Always use this IP address Issue

Hi all,

I have just switched from Sky to EE.

I have the new Smart Hub 7 Plus and although most of it works, i have a couple of issues.

1. When i try to turn on "Always use this ip address" for devices on my LAN it won't toggle. Therefore i cannot set fixed LAN addresses for smart devices etc around the home.   (I changed the DHCP Range/Router IP to match Sky's)

2. Port forwarding, although works, creates two entries every time.

Frustrating for the most simplest of functions.

Anyone have the same issue or can help shed some light on what might be the cause.

Is it a bug in the firmware, as i can see previous models had this working ok.

Slightly off topic but I am considering switching from Sky to EE. I’m currently on part fibre and have a Sky hub which is at least 4 years old. Speeds are not the best but suitable for my usage. Issues is I am out of contract and don’t really want to fix for 24 months (EE offer 12 months and cheaper than Sky).

I've read a few reports of the new EE smart 7 plus router does not have good signal strength for WiFi around the home. I live in a 3 bed semi and my current sky hub transmits the 5ghz signal to every room although this drops to about 80% signal strength upstairs although the speeds are exactly the same as if at standing next to the hub.

im considering the full fibre 150 but am interested in others thoughts on the EE smart plus 7 hub.

@Mike9_LO Do you have any wifi 7 devices, and the 7 Plus Router is just so new as it is only just released if it is out for general usage as the 6 + eventual replacement will be aimed at the lower Full Fibre speeds! Sky does not have a unit that is the same!

The original poster said it only affects Ethernet connections

No, OP didn't! OP said it affects "LAN". The LAN includes WiFi connections. OP particularly mentioned smart devices which predominantly tend to be on WiFi.

@Christopher_G

I want to keep on top of this issue, are there any updates as to the progress of the fix?

Many thanks for your help.

This is what my EE contact has provided me with, I am sure that he would be ok for me to share the information too...

Static IP Address Setting

There is a known issue preventing the "Always use this IP address" option from working for ethernet-connected devices on Smart Hub 7 Plus. Our engineering team has actually already fixed it, and the updated firmware is being released over the coming weeks.

Your router will update automatically; please make sure it’s connected to your line. After the update, you'll be able to assign static IP addresses as expected.

@Huggons1

I got a similar response, but saying they are working on it, so I wondered when it was going to be released.

@jsviper77 As a new user to the EE way, patience is a virtue, work around all the issues that crop up and waiting game, units have not worked or been fixed for years. EE's plan is for them and they give zero information, daily there could be slight other issues, so the FW team work away fixing testing planning the release, oops another one let's try this, and there is a whole testing sample team working with the NEW units no doubt feeding back to them with findings....

Better to mess with the small team than do the general public with them all!

I think that being told that it will be fixed in a firmware update that is coming soon is just another way of fobbing you off and closing an issue. I have been told in the past that a firmware update coming soon will resolve not being able to fix WiFi channels and to fix the limited number of concurrent WiFi connections. This was before the last generally released update on the Pro.
