Smart Hub 2 - USB Networking

Hi,

I've been reading that the USB port at the back of the EE Smart Hub 2 router cannot be used to connect a USB Flash drive to the network.  At least, there is no discovery of a USB stick on the Manager Hub/App.

So, I'm led to believe it is only there basically as a power socket.

If this is the case, what if anything could be plugged into the router (by adding on some kind of peripheral eg Male Ethernet/Female USB adaptor ; a different router, etc)  to get the a USB network functionality ?

Thanks.

@hevster_uk Did you look at any Forum post's prior to moving from BT to EE?

@JimM11  - I did but just to look at what performance people who moved from BT to EE had been getting.  And on that front all looked well and I have no complaint on the speed/performance EE provide - just the same as with BT.  Which is no surprise given it is all the same back end.

I didn't think I would need to check for a feature I had on an older Hub that had been degraded on newer kit.  Especially if they are partnered with BT, whose SmartHub USB port is enabled for USB drives.  I'd sort of expect EE to be specific about what their Hub does, and does not, support.

And I'm not sure any customer moving from BT to EE, which is the preferred path BT and EE want us all to go down, would expect the newer Hub to downgrade a feature on the older one?

Had I, I suspect I wouldn't have moved.  It's a really good feature on the BT Hub that I know a number of people make use of for easy network storage.

@hevster_uk Just put the BT hub back on, works fine with the EE Service!

@JimM11  Sadly that went back pretty much straight away.  I had to do a rather long business trip to a couple of our overseas offices just after I switched, so just managed to get the BT kit in the returns post before I left (I'd planned ahead on that front and got the bag already in hand), but also didn't get chance to find out the USB port didn't do what I expected until I got back.  So an unfortunate set of circumstances or else yep, I'd definitely have kept the old BT kit.

It isn't the end of the world, it's just a bit annoying and another lesson learnt in terms of EE.  It does seem to be a company heavily reliant on forum/community posts, which thankfully has a lot of very informed people, to provide folks with some information that might be better provided direct from EE.  So checking here is now first port of call for anything EE related.

Anyway, I guess it gives me an excuse to research and buy another new gadget in the form of a NAS storage device.  Always enjoy a bit of tech shopping!  One must try and find the positives in these things 🙂
