So, I've spent the last week or so trying to diagnose an issue with my home broadband (Fibre 900). It all started when I noticed that every so often (every few minutes), devices would report that my WiFi could not connect to the internet, at first I thought it was just a WiFi issue, then one night, while at work, I got a ping on my phone to say that my Apple Homehubs were not responding (which are wired connections). So the issue is affecting both wired and wireless devices. I removed all the wired devices, and the issue persisted, and I removed all the wireless devices, same issue. So nothing on my network is causing it. I've even moved the router to be plugged directly into the ONT, still happens.
I suspected a router issue, so got a Smart Hub Pro from a friend, and the exact same issue occurred.
The really weird thing is that devices works fine when they are connected to a VPN. My Apple TV had become unusable for apps external to the network (NowTV, BBC iPlayer etc), but over a VPN they work fine. YouTube won't load videos on my PC (it will load the body of the website though), but turn on the VPN, and hey presto. Right now, I've had to connect to a VPN just to send this message, because even EE's own website fails to launch without it, and currently there are only 2 things connected to the network, this PC (wired) and my Phone (wifi 6GHz).
It really looks like its an issue with EE's network, but when I last spoke to Tech Support, they said everything their side is fine and wanted to send out a technician. But it cannot be anything internal to mine, because if it was, the VPN wouldn't work either. I don't really have time for them to waste my time by sending out a technician to tell me what I already know.
Any suggestions?

Where else can it be? The router has to be plugged directly into the ONT.

Helpful thanks.
It was previously plugged into a trunk Cat6 cable that runs from my garage (where the ONT is) that acts like a faraday cage for WiFi signals, to the hallway. This meant that there were three cables in the circuit (ONT>Patch Panel, Patch Panel>Outlet, Outlet>Router).
I moved it so that the only cabling was ONT>Router.

Ah, OK, still 1 Ethernet connection, albeit via various interchange points.
