Afternoon.
After 6 years on BT 900Mbit Halo 3, using SH2 and 3xblack discs (Wifi 5) I contracted across to EE and changed equipment before Christmas.
This is my experience of it all.
I was supplied with wifi 6 + kit, then in the app offered an upgrade to the new V7 kit, after I'd setup all the new equipment. For now i'll leave it as wifi 6 as it pretty quick already.
Ive over 90 + devices (IOT switches, bulbs etc) so I had to install my existing TP-Link router on the same LAN behind the EE router for DHCP. I did not want to have to setup DHCP again with IP reservations etc, so used the same wifi SSID names and passwords, which will allow 99% of devices to connect to the new wifi LAN.
This worked initially, however I did need to restart a few devices as I think there was some network confusion with ARPs etc due to the change over of routers. Either way, the TPLINK router just serves up the DHCP addresses rather than the EE one.
The three new extenders were setup, but didnt show up in the EE App for a good 24 hours, and after pin resets too. I also noticed that the app said they were too close to the router, so I moved them further away which sorted out all three. The older BT ones had to be nearer the router to work well, well these don't and I suspect I could get away with just using two of them.
Due to the new equipment alot of my Home Assistant addon's had to be reset, restarted, however over the past two days all has been well.
What I did notice, and Ive read similar here on this forum. The wifi extenders expect to use EE/BT DNS. I made the mistake of allocating DNS 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1 to clients (Via DHCP), which stopped them being visible from the EE app or the web interface of the EE router. Once I changed the DNS to the EE routers IP address all started to work fine with them, both in the App and the webpages on the router.
Walk testing the wifi across three floors I find that I can get upto 800 mbit in certain areas in a 3 storey building, with nowhere less than respectable 200Mbit speedtest. Far superior to the BT wifi 5 discs, and of course more powerful as far as I can see.
All in all I'm happy with the switch to EE from BT as there was no chance of BT updating their technology now.
