Quick question: can you move devices from 5g to 2.4 on ee router?

Hi all,

EE broadband signal is poor just now and I'm WFH.  Ive logged into router and there are 9 devices using it just now with 7 on 5G and 2 on 2.4.  Im assuming if i can move a few off 5G ( echo speakers/ tap blutooth plug etc) I can dedicate more bandwidth to work laptop?

Have i got this right, and If yes how do I do this on the router?   Can anyone point me to a 'how to guide'?

@SDD Which router do you have? There is no real easy way to do what you are trying and will depend on what router you have, You should post the package speed that you have also? Bandwidth if it is an issue especially on wi-fi, then Ethernet the Laptop if possible is your first test. Wireless bands and speed, 5Ghz band will struggle to send the signal as far as the 2.4Ghz band and the 5ghz band is way faster than the 2.4ghz band (but), and some devices just connect as required to the best band they can or are on fixed etc. Easiest and quickest is switch your devices off and go from that point other solutions depend on your router.

@SDD  moving devices is unlikely to make a difference to your work laptop. All the devices share what ever bandwidth you have, and unless you have one of the very latest routers you can't really allocate more bandwidth to one device over another. The 2.4 band is better over longer distances, the 5Ghz better for speed, but shorter distance. However the later routers are unable to be split, and individual devices shoose the best band it can.

You need to make sure you you have sufficient bandwidth for your requirements, although there may be a limit to what is available.

But for best results for your work laptop, a wired connection to the router should be your first priority if possible, then depending on your property extending the WiFi signal may help.
