Ive recently gone from phoneline broadband to fibre. I was on EE before and rarely had any latacy issues when playing games online. Now ive moved to fibre, i seem to be getting the higher speed downloads but the packet loss every few seconds makes playing online impossible. When ive done tests online it shows 20% packet loss.
Ive read a few threads on this message board about the router being the problem. Is this a common fault with a common fix?

@aken1 not sure what you have read, but also have very little information from you regarding your issues.
What service do you have, what router and what issues are you having?

@aken1 I moved from Fibre 50 Essential to the Full Fibre 500 Essentials as to EE Descriptions (fttc - fttp) using the EE Smarthub+ Primary router, with zero issue swap over from one to the other, Wan cable connected 1st and DSL Cable removed after OR had done the ONT power on/off and there forced FW update method's for the ONT. Absolutely no issues what so ever, wan cable was temp until i threaded the replacement cable through after pulling out the OR Landline cable, So the cable was in and out a few times, screwed up one off the pins on the RJ45 making off the end and had to redo that left it all for a few days checking log's, reset from yesterday morning at 25 day's up on fttp so went through the gambit of all possible things that could go wrong.
You also fail to mention as @Mustrum has pointed out details, and when you reply what type of connection and devices that are included in your potential problem...
