New 900mbs broadband poor performance

Hi 😊 I had the 900/110 broadband package installed today and it’s performing very poorly. The speed varies wildly between 35-380 download and 9-90 upload . One of my devices is connected directly to the router and the best I could get from that was 90/50 .

I’ve read that this package doesn’t take time to settle so ….. am I stuck with it ? ☹️ Can anyone help ?

Many thanks in advance

@VWhiteaide  no one has said that is a solution - it is just a way to test.

You seem to be very reluctant to say what devices you are testing with, hence we have no idea if they are capable of getting those speeds.

It's only a workaround & proof of concept for your BB speed.

The only proper solution is to to replace the EE Smart Router with a good generic router.

Hi . Sorry I thought you meant what websites ( Speedtest.net etc )

I’m using the following…

iphone 13 pro max

apple Mac m1 ( 6 months old)

iPad Air ( 9 months old )

dell laptop not sure of specs but 2 years old . The dell is connected with Ethernet, all other devices are using WI-FI

thank you 😊

Ps. I didn’t realise that the solution you gave was just to test . Do you mean that if I do the test and the speed is ok then it points to the router ?

Ahh I see ☹️ Why do EE supply these routers if they’re not capable of delivering the stated guaranteed speeds ?

i don’t feel I should have to pay for a new router and wouldn’t have a clue how to choose one anyway.

Cuz they are sourced from their partner ISP, BT Retail, where similar issues are often reported.

A top-end Asus RT- or a TP-Link will probably do it.

@VWhiteaide yes, that is what we meant. Just a test to narrow things down.  Also knowing what you are testing with to know if they are capable of those speeds.

The routers are capable of those speeds, but may need a firmware update.

That said, you will never get those speeds on Wi-Fi. Perhaps half the download speed.

If speeds don't improve tomorrow, you could give the Broadband Care Team a call to see if there was any tweaks they could do.

I really hope all that’s needed is a firmware update. I understand that my Wi-Fi devices will only achieve half the stated speed and I’d be happy with that . None of the devices are anywhere near though , wired or Wi-Fi .

Is it true that it doesn’t need time to “settle” ? I fear that’s what EE will say when I call up ….”give it 10 days to settle”

There's no need for a stabilisation period but I also fear CS may say there is.

The "settle" thing is standard from most ISP front line people, and whilst it is true for ADSL, less so for FTTC/FTTP - that said a day or two for the firmware to update is not unreasonable.
