New 900mbs broadband poor performance

Hi 😊 I had the 900/110 broadband package installed today and it’s performing very poorly. The speed varies wildly between 35-380 download and 9-90 upload . One of my devices is connected directly to the router and the best I could get from that was 90/50 .

I’ve read that this package doesn’t take time to settle so ….. am I stuck with it ? ☹️ Can anyone help ?

Many thanks in advance

What are you using to test the speeds?

There have been reports that the router needs to download the latest firmware - how long have you been connected?

Hi 😊 thanks for your reply . I’ve used various programs to test inc the BT Wholesale and all vary wildly.

I have only been connected about 4 hours.

how do I update the routers firmware ? 😕

OK, but saying various does not help narrow things down.

Router firmware is automatically updated by the network.

Connecting directly to the ONT with a PC/Laptop with a fast network interface and setting up a PPOE session will bypass the router and you should get full speeds.

Sorry I don’t even know what any of that means in your solution 😔

I used broadbandspeedchecker, Speedtest.net , broadband Speedtest.org and bt wholesale

On Windows: Along the lines of Settings > Network & Internet > Dial-Up > Set up a new connection > Connect to the Internet > (Set up a new connection anyway) > BB (PPPoE) & then supply your BB Username + pwd & Connect.

Thank you 😊 is that a solution that will only work if I’m plugged directly into the ONT box ?

Yes, as @Mustrum suggested. I'm only trying to fill in the detail he didn't give for you.

Ahh I thought so 😊 thank you 😊 how is that a real world solution though if I can only achieve the quoted speeds if plugged directly into the ONT box ? 🤔 nobody uses devices in that way ?
