@Richardr66 There is a few with the Essential in the name, and supporting HD, but only two that are pure digital and connect to the EE router without any physical wiring, you may have to do model number, for comparison with @Padcamp if the features are different, or post a photo up of your handset.

@Richardr66 Apart from a slight cosmetic look to the newer phones, is there any way to find menu / help etc about what version etc of FW that it may be using. That may be the only difference on the phones and how they interact with the router.

I have my handsets set up so that I only have the green LED tape icon indicating if there are messages. I could have had both but visual is better as one can see straight away if you have messages without having to pick up the handset.

Go into settings, scroll down to 1571 message alert, press select "Alert tone" appears press left or right on direction button to select on or off then press save for your selection, click on the down section of the direction button and select Message LED, as above choose on or off and the press save for your selection.

As you can see in the pictures I have posted that is the handsets I have.

It does now work as it should do - i.e the alert tone works separately from the icon - so all is good.

Perhaps it needed to update, but all is well now.

Richardr66. If you put your old digital phone into your system, does that have alert tone too?

There are three separate things:

  1. the lit button on the handset when there is a message
  2. the alert tone, which is a beep from the handset into the room every 10 seconds that indicates a message
  3. the interrupted dial tone

With the first two, they are selectable on the new digital handsets and work on such a handset.

The third does not work for anyone as far as I know on the digital voice system, despite being in the FAQ.

My previous phone wasn't digital, it plugged into the back of the Hub, and didn't have any indication of a message on the new digital phone system [it had the interrupted dial tone and a button that lit on the traditional phone system].

@Richardr66 Are you saying reading your post, that the unit plugged into the back off the router with the phone you had gave an indication that voicemail was left because it did have a feature that allowed so, but the downside was that it stopped your new DV phones from doing any indication...
