Recently switched from BT to EE broadband, same landline etc. And the BT router looks identical to the new EE router apart from the badge and colours LOL All set up easily and operating at good speeds but I now have problems with the wifi dropping when I am two rooms away from the router - I never had this problem with the BT router. I understand this can be cured by splitting the 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands on the router settings, and then connecting to the 2.4ghz only on my iPad ? Will this cure the problem and how do I do this?

@Razboy If you look at the back of the router you’ll see a IP address that you use via a web browser. There is also a admin and login password that you use, this is also on the sticker on the back of the router.

For an EE Smart Hub, but not an EE Smart Router, try separating the wireless channels. On the Advanced / Wireless Settings page of the SH there is a button near the top to Separate the Bands. Turn it ON. Then the 5GHz SSID will appear starting with "5GHz-" & the 2.4 GHz SSID not starting with "5GHz-". Then connect your devices to the 2.4 GHz SSID if they can't do 5GHz. The Smart Router doesn't allow this.
Apples in particular are not happy with combined WiFi bands.
It was the same with the BT Smart Hubs.

Thanks for the reply. I have now separated the channels and all is working as it should. I see how I get on over the next few days. Interested to note your comment about Apple products - it's an oldish iPad that was giving me problems. never had the problem with my BT Smart Router though - although it appears "identical" to the EE Smart Router I guess there may be some software differences.

Thanks! You're welcome 🙂 ! Glad I could be of assistance.
You don't have the EE Smart Router which is similar to the BT Smart Hub 2; you have the EE Smart Hub.

@RazboyApple products had the same issues with the BT hub as well.

How am I supposed to connect my smart bulbs and run my smart home with this not so smart router that won’t let me split the frequency?

@Mspeakman : Try disabling the 5GHz band on your Smart Router, connecting your smart bulbs to the 2.4GHz band & then reenabling the 5GHz band.

@XRaySpeX I tried this and my smart life app and bulbs still will not connect? Any other ideas I could try? Thanks

@xcazx : Which EE router do you have? Black Smart Hub or white Smart Router? Both were covered in this thread you latched onto.
