EE Smart Hub Massive Latency Spikes

Hello All,

I switched from BT to directly with EE a few months back and as part of this I switched from the BT branded Wifi hub to the EE smart WIFI hub plus. Previously I was able to causally game with no issues via wifi.

Other than changing the Hubs, there has been no change what so ever in my set up. Download speed tests show I'm well above 100mbps. However since the change, when I'm gaming the ping will normally sit around 25, but every 20 or so seconds I'm getting massive lag spikes where my ping is hitting 300-400.

I've reset the hub and my PC multiple times with no effect every time. I've even changed my wifi adaptor on my PC.

EE in live chat can only suggest getting a wired connection. This won't work for myself due to house layout being awkward to string a wire around, hence why I use Wifi.

I've noticed others in the forum have raised this exact issue, citing it may be a defect with the hub. Has anyone had any luck resolving this, as so far EE haven't taken on board my complaints about the poor connection.

@AyrshireCSC Category of cable is well capable off over 1Gb/s in a SHORT distance.

still nothing? because I'm experiencing the exact same issue

I done this but its only done the job half way, my ping went from 1000 to 200 and the spikes are shorter which is good but im trying to completely solve the issue

@chillies The problem with jumping on other posting's is that what you need is not known. The public forum has no account access, knows nothing regarding who you are, what your problem is, and this is not customer service, we are all customers just like yourself.

Hi, seems I’m having the same issue as many others. I was on BT and was changed over to EE. The internet is used a lot in the house and BT seemed to deal with it completely fine and never had any issues. We had a smart hub and several BT WiFi discs around the house. Since switching to EE there seems to be one main issue and it is with ping and latency and online gaming. On BT when a Speedtest was run on a PS5 console (which is on the top floor of a 3 story house, and the router being on the bottom floor) it pulled in over 100mbps. Now when running a Speedtest on the PS5 console on EE, we still receive well over 100mbps but games are literally unplayable because of constant lag. A issue we never had with BT.

Nothing in the set up has changed only the new EE router.

I have changed settings suggested on the PS5 console to improve this but this has only helped a significantly small amount and the online games are still unplayable.

Any suggestions? As I can’t get my head around how it was completely fine before and now it just does not work!

thanks in advance

@Noahjohnson If it was only the hub change then change it back and you should go back to what you had previous.

Hi mate, that’s the thing they took away our old BT hub and extenders and told us we were now unable to go back to BT 😕

@Noahjohnson You posted this "Nothing in the set up has changed only the new EE router. "  Is it not true and your 2nd posting is true?

So with confirmation provided that the Smart Hub Plus does not work with connections over 1gb(next gen) I have been waiting since September for a fix - that fix is allegedly the Pro Hub. Now on the 8th week in a row of being told one would be delivered and guess what, still not got one. It's become a complete joke now - still using old BT Smart Hub 2 because the Plus is a joke! Getting way under guaranteed speed because the SmH2 can only handle 1gb...but at least it works. No idea what EE are doing with these Pro Hubs but they appear to be golddust!
