I have ordered the 1.6gbps package from EE which should be going live on 5th December.
I am currently on BT's Full Fibre 900, so already have the small white fibre model box in my home, but what I would like to know is if this Fibre modem is actually capable of speeds greater than 1gbps, or if an engineer will be needing to change this on the day?
I guess second to this, is the new EE Hub also the modem? I use my own networking equipment and I am trying to prepare what I need to be able to support the upgrade on day one. I know I will be able to put the EE Hub in bridge mode if this is the case, I am just also unsure how many 2.5g ports the new hub has?

Minor and possibly boring update: the router was indeed the limit, qos was on.
Installed a 2.5gbit nic, and now getting ~1685mbit (windows speedtest app much more consistent than browsers, which wasn't the case before). Pretty much identical overhead to before, was getting 939 mbit on 1000 connection, and 0.939*1800=1690. Possibly there are minor mtu tweaks to be had, that's all just defaults.

I have just been thru this hell with them I was out of contract with bt so should go to ee as a new customer ...no they just flit me over and I was told 53 quid a month and a free move to 1600 mb when it's available no charge ...having only a 1 gig ONT and not 2.5 and they won't come.replace it it's only new customers .so I'm supposed to be up live today ???? Requested a cancellation and was told it will happen and I'll go back to BT like nothing happened I'll be surprised if I'm not billed by both now it's a total disjointed effort this EE BT shambles its a struggle to get someone to tell the truth from being happy paying the overpriced out of contract with BT I'm not very angry with both what are really the same it's like dealing with a company that's bipolar and skitso at the same

I’ve had no drama so far. Engineer called 10 mins before arrival, I explained I was only expecting him to be installing a 2.5g ONT, which he was thrilled to find out about and he was in and out in 10 mins.
straight after he left I did a speed test and was getting 1630mbps. Top job, couldn’t be happier

Yes, I believe these haven't been technical issues with ONTs and Hubs, but more with account migration and authentication.
I'm also getting just over 1,600Mbps

@chipmunk77 Are you achieving those speeds using the EE Smart Hub Plus? I didn't expect you to see speeds over 1Gbps with that device because it doesn't have any 2.5Gbps LAN ports.

@garywood84 : They can only be WiFi speeds, not Ethernet.

@XRaySpeX, well, I'd be surprised if it's over ethernet, but @chipmunk77 said he installed a 2.5Gbps NIC, which inplies that it's a wired connection. And whilst WiFi should exceed 1Gbps on a 1.6Gpbs provision, will it really hit 1.6Gbps using a WiFi 6 router? I'd have thought you'd need WiFi 6E.

@garywood84 : I'm sure I've seen many New EE BB users post speedtests in excess of 1600 Meg, but I cba'd to find them, & @bobpullen posts 1 of 1483 Meg in this very thread.
Can't NIC include Wireless i/f's?

Anyone using the EE hub won’t get getting wired speeds above 1gig as there are no 2.5gig LAN ports. Speeds over 1gig will be from WiFi, which some users have reported already.
