EE 1.6gb packet loss (solved)

Hi all,

I had my connection made yesterday, but I was experiencing huge packet loss (up to 90%) throughout the day and night, I was hoping it would stabilise and correct itself after things had "settled"

Come this morning and its still terrible, so I get onto the EE help and they identify a switch on my network, this hasn't been an issue previously with virgin fibre (1.2gb).

The chap on the phone says they don't recommend switches as they can cause packet loss, I doubted his claim but bypassed it as suggested.

The result? everything is working as it should, no packet loss after multiple tests.

 

My question to everyone is, why is this the case? the switch is rated to 2.5gbs so it should be fine with these speeds. Why the huge packet loss all of a sudden? And also, what switches would be compatible as this area feeds my server and the Wireless access point for the office
