Hi, we have recently changed our broadband service from Fibre Plus to Fibre 67 Essentials and they sent us out a new router - Smart Hub Plus - We are currently using an E Smart router (White one) - Can we start using the new router even though our new service doesn't start until Thursday? I only ask as we did set it up but found the speeds were awful compared to the existing Smart Hub - I would have thought we could start using it straight away in preparation for the new service starting. CAn anyone clarify?

@TristanH1976 your new router will work with your existing service. Speeds should be the same with either router.

HI, thank you for the reply - That's what I thought - but for some reason when I ran a speed test on both - The existing router (Sunday am test) via wifi on my mobile next to the router was giving me an average of 32mbps but the newer router was half that at 16mbps at one point dropped to 4mbps so we changed back to the original router (Smart Router) by those standards the speed is pretty slow even though to the Router the speeds are better just the outputs seem very slow esp on the newer Smart Hub Plus

@TristanH1976 I did exactly the same put the new router on before the service went live, I didn’t see any changes. The new router you have will probably not have the latest firmware on it and you’ll not get that until your new connection goes live. So probably best to wait until you get an email stating your service is now live. The firmware update will happen within 24h of going live.

Hi Chris, ah ok I'll wait 🙂 thank you - I take it, it will automatically download the latest firmware or will I need to go in to the router settings to do this manually?

@TristanH1976 it’ll do it automatically you don’t need to do anything.

Great, thanks for confirming

Are you able to compare the speedtests over Ethernet?
The SH+ router will update its firmware unbidden even over your old Fibre Plus connection. It makes no diff which EE package it's running over. Mine does over Fibre Plus.
