Connecting memory device to USB port on smart router

I have connected a Samsung memory device to my smart router. The smart router manager shows status as 'connected' but I am unable to work out how to access the files on the device. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, bryan R

@JonasvS : The router's USB port supports only NTFS, FAT16 or FAT32 formatted drives.

Does your Mac support SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing?

Hi @XRaySpeX , thanks
Looked into this and MACs has been using SMB2 for awhile.  It is possible however to revert to SMB1 / CIFS according to this article : https://www.cnet.com/tech/computing/how-to-force-the-use-of-smb1-and-other-protocols-in-mavericks/

I tried this and the Connect to Server feature could not find smb://COMPUTER_ADDRESS.  Would need to go through Terminal, which I am not entirely comfortable with ...

Will that help with the formatting issue?  I need to use APFS in order to perform Time Machine backups.

Thanks for your help!

Jonas

SMB has nowt to do with the format of the disk. SMB is for access; format is for storage. It is a requirement of the router's USB port that the format of the drive is as I said & none other.

Thanks @XRaySpeX ,

I will have to find another way of connecting the drive than through the EE router...   Interesting though that they don't make  that USB port Mac compatible with about 25-30% of MacOS users against Windows 55-60% (ok, US figures)

In any case am grateful that you were able to clarify this for me, so I don't have to try to dig any deeper!

Cheers,
Jonas

Hello, I just got my NVME to connect and work with no formatting. once connected and showing connected on router set device to server/network storage.

then go to file explorer, might show up as bthub6dx but connect the your router. probably need to sign in will be the same as your router (admin)(password). you will see the storage device open it and enjoy your shared Storage/NAS. Hope this helps.Screenshot 2024-04-07 214931.png
