@Poor3 they do sound very poor speeds.
Availablr speeds depend on a number of things, how far you are from the exchange for ADSL, how far from the cabinet for VDSL/FTTC or if you can get fibre then you should get the speeds you sign up for. These speeds are the sync speeds, not what you test, these can vary with use on your line.
The first thing to look at would be entering your details - ideally phone number, if not your address into the BTW DSL checker which will show what services you can get at your property via Openreach lines. Post the results, include the complete table with the text below, but hide your phone/address.

Welcome to EE's Home Broadband Forum.
To answer that would need a lot more info about your line & its performance, as below.
If you would like help with your BB speed or connection issues, please would you carry out the following steps for starters, which will enable us to diagnose the problem and advise you further. Do not restart your router to do these tests:
1. Post your full router stats:
Full router stats are key to any speed & connection issues.
2. Try a wired speedtest, using an Ethernet cable supplied with the router, here http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html . Click on the "Results Page" button at the bottom of the graph you first see and then copy to here just the "Link to this result:" link that you see below the next main graph.
3. What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post just the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number or you don't have one, use the Address Checker, not the Postcode Checker.

@Poor3 That shows you are a very long way from the exchange and only very poor speeds available at present.
Have you explored any other suppliers or technology?
I am guessing mobile signal is also poor?
Any local community initiatives?
Or satellite services ?

Well, unless you post the requested router stats we'll never find out why it's so slow & whether it can be made faster.
