Hello,
I am expecting to switch (finally) from BT to EE’s full fibre 1.6Gbps in the next couple of weeks and looking to get the best possible router. I’d be grateful if anyone can help me in regards to using the Asus ZenWifi BQ16 for this or possibly a good alternative.
Will the Asus be working on EEs line/plan fine? There’s quite a few devices at home all of which will be using WiFi since Ethernet is not possible the way things are.
Any input, advice and suggestions will be appreciated.

@Rich20148 Earlier in the post, third party settings all in the WAN off the Asus, pppoe, user name password blank no vlan at all, that is all you need to get started and direct connected on the ONT of not using a EE Hub!

So just ppoe and no username and password? Nothing else? I get an ip address assigned but no internet!

@Rich20148 PPPoE, then the user name it is required, the password BT or blank all as the Third party settings earlier in the post....
The vlan is not required.

Okay I have it working. Vlan was the issue. Sometimes simple is best.
now to optimise. 5ghz is faster than EE across the house but my phone seems slower. I suspect it has connected to 6ghz at distance. I though smart connect should fix that?
and thanks for the help.

@Rich20148 The Network Map and View List should show you all the connection info you need at the device level, ipv6 for setting up that, native operation if direct connected to the ONT, DNS to user different server lookup and the 2.4/5/6GHz if you have them all one ssid them mlo worth a look at. Do not use that model as have zero wifi7 devices.

I will use one SSID. What about smart connect? My phone is WiFi 7 and suspect it stays connected to 6 ghz even when 5ggz (my iPad) is twice the speed and stronger single.
nit many WiFi 7 devices yet sonisnitbbetter to run off iov6?

@Rich20148 Are you using the Asus web manager or doing it all on a phone? Would advise you to do the web manager if possible, WAY more information, will look at the smart connect on my XT8 has the feature but not being used and all my bands are split, wired and wireless Ai mesh in use, most devices are chain linked apart from the few that drift about like the mobiles etc.

I ordered and returned the Quad Band BQ16, It's one of the most returned routers according to Amazon.
Overall it was slow and things got suck rather than switching between bands. Settled on the Deco BE85 which gives me 1.2 to 1.6 across the house in the same room I get around 2.6Gbps (on a 2.5Gbps connection).
The the EE Wifi7 Hub and Satellite is pretty decent, used to get the 1.9Gbps in the same room and around 1.5Gbps in other rooms when I was on the EE 1.8 connection.

Interesting. I will play later and see.
