2 week review of EE 1.6gbs

Having been on the new 1.6gb/s service now for 2 weeks, and here are my views,

i have the EE new smart router plus and 3 extenders, first off i know the EE smart hub plus only has 1gb LAN ports, speeds have been ok and stable WIFI rangers from about 650-820  what is not bad, i m running with them hardwired with a lan to them, i know WiFi 6 max speeds are 1200 but rarely get them in the real world

this package feels like it been rushed out, my reason for saying this are,  openreach engineers laptops have 1gb Ethernet ports so they are unable to check speeds from ONT or any other Speedtest at your home if you are on the 1.6gbs package

the EE router having only 1gb LAN, also it comes with a cat 5e cable, this cat of cable does up to 1gb, so if you are on 1.6gb/s you will need to get a new Ethernet lead to connected the smart hub plus to the ONT

all the WiFi features like work and game mode and WiFi controls dont work, it say page not found, i have heard that the WiFi enhanced feature has been turn off so the team can look at it and fix it as it affecting a lot of users and should be back after a month, i am unable to check speed via the router page this time it asking for me to make an EE account

speeds and connection has been stable and good, but i did have a lot of issues getting the service

i know of people who have bought a 3rd party router so they can get full access to the raw 1.6gbs speeds, and they are having no issues on speeds as router has 2.5gb LAN on them unlike the EE smart hub plus

i have bought a usbc to 2.5gb Ethernet adapter so i can test the raw speeds at the ONT, plus if openreach do need to test speeds at my home they will be able too

so in short i hope you can see why i think this package has been rushed out from the fact openreach dont have the kit to test speeds at the customer home, to all the issues with the new smart hub plus

@Bluenose_Dave  you are right the term Max is potentially more suitable, i used capped though as in my mind EE capped all users of there WiFi6E router (with a 2.5Gb WAN port) due to really poor product design, that router could of easily had at least one 2.5Gb LAN port and would of cost EE pence to use in the quantity they ship (a lot of 1Gb LAN ports are actually higher rated just limited in firmware these days)

It only a wifi6 the smart hub plus, but again an example of short sightedness with the router and ee more concerned maybe with grabbing headlines of being first ISP WiFi 7 router

I would have thought that it is obvious that they need to deal with the current orders in their system for customers signing up with the WiFi 7 kit reflected in their terms, before then voluntarily upgrading customers on the older kit, as new different kit is never usually sent out without a change of contract to reflect it.

I asked them about re-contracting which would move me onto the new T&C and was told because I'm on the highest package and the price I pay is higher  than the price on their system they can't do it.

Honestly i would expect a company the size of EE would have had procedures in place at the time of launch so new and existing customers could benefit. The fact that they didnt is just another example of mis management at EE

So with myself having a smart hub 2 sent out and is only way to get a connection does that break the T&Cs I wonder

That's the exact kind of issue they're currently trying to figure out I would imagine. There's no one size fits all solution for it from a legal/business POV.

Purely speculation on my behalf and not the words of anyone with legal credentials or knowledge of contract law I'm afraid.

@Bluenose_Dave If teh Smart Hub 2 only has a 1Gb WAN port then i would say tehy broke there T&C as it is impossible for you to hit there own advertised minimum speed to 1 or multiple devices in your house

Where's it advertised that you could get 1.6 Gig to a single device in your home? EE 1.6 Gig BB & its router are intended to supply 1.6 Gig bandwidth to a household of many devices sharing the 1.6 Gig between them. It is not aimed at the specialised & rare situation of a single device needing the whole bandwidth continuously. If that's your bag get a specialised router.

Just had a call back from the exec team.

I don't know why I was expecting that she had spoken with the team and had got an update that there was no update. Instead she said she hasn't heard anything, in a round about way I asked her to check with the team which she's going to do and send me an email with an update.

Oh, she said there is one way to go ahead and order it but it's a nuclear option, it would mean ceasing the service here completely and then setting up a whole new contract/order.

Complaint will be left open until there is a resolution.
