2 week review of EE 1.6gbs

Having been on the new 1.6gb/s service now for 2 weeks, and here are my views,

i have the EE new smart router plus and 3 extenders, first off i know the EE smart hub plus only has 1gb LAN ports, speeds have been ok and stable WIFI rangers from about 650-820  what is not bad, i m running with them hardwired with a lan to them, i know WiFi 6 max speeds are 1200 but rarely get them in the real world

this package feels like it been rushed out, my reason for saying this are,  openreach engineers laptops have 1gb Ethernet ports so they are unable to check speeds from ONT or any other Speedtest at your home if you are on the 1.6gbs package

the EE router having only 1gb LAN, also it comes with a cat 5e cable, this cat of cable does up to 1gb, so if you are on 1.6gb/s you will need to get a new Ethernet lead to connected the smart hub plus to the ONT

all the WiFi features like work and game mode and WiFi controls dont work, it say page not found, i have heard that the WiFi enhanced feature has been turn off so the team can look at it and fix it as it affecting a lot of users and should be back after a month, i am unable to check speed via the router page this time it asking for me to make an EE account

speeds and connection has been stable and good, but i did have a lot of issues getting the service

i know of people who have bought a 3rd party router so they can get full access to the raw 1.6gbs speeds, and they are having no issues on speeds as router has 2.5gb LAN on them unlike the EE smart hub plus

i have bought a usbc to 2.5gb Ethernet adapter so i can test the raw speeds at the ONT, plus if openreach do need to test speeds at my home they will be able too

so in short i hope you can see why i think this package has been rushed out from the fact openreach dont have the kit to test speeds at the customer home, to all the issues with the new smart hub plus

@XRaySpeX  I am sorry and i don't mean to be rude but this is a pretty stupid answer. From memory all broadband offerings to date have been capable of providing the purchased speed to a single device, this being the exception should of been advertised as that not being possible. Wanting 1,6Gb is not a specialized need, any gamer fed up with downloading 100GB+ files would want a faster connection to a single device. From past experience of your posts notice that you are not a user that sees the benefits of these faster speeds and that is fine but there are plenty of us out there that do, heck personally i would pay for a 2 or 5GB symmetrical connection. This should of been clearly advertised as not for a single device on supplied equipment at the time it was at best an oversight on EEs part in an attempt to be the fastest but they messed it up

My black spot in my bedroom is fixed, I thought try turning just that repeater on and my smart bulb works it is via a wired switch connection, but if I turn another on it goes wrong my thinking is as it can’t mesh as i am still using the smart hub 2

@Bluenose_Dave That would be correct, the +smarthub, smart wireless devices, would have a compatibility issue with the Smarthub2 router, you will have all kinds of strange effects, better to have you mesh of in the meantime till the +Router gets fixed.

I never running mesh as I have it back hauled with cat 8 so I get best speed to the extenders. I hope to get a couple of pro ones as it will act as a in out  switch as the ports are 2.4gb. Before I start replacing my 1gb switches to 2.5gb

i read the ps5 pro is rumoured to have a 2.5gb Ethernet port and it is confirmed WiFi 7

I don’t think you can speed test them as al the other sky stuff don’t have any speed tests best will be a connection test and that is very basic

@Bluenose_Dave You are in the unique situation currently regarding equipment, and if you have time can you clear up this question just for me, backhaul has nothing to do with mesh, so with you router and only one smartwifi device does it have a connection on its own via the ethernet, and the router is not getting confused in its operation?

And if so, do you think that its wireless transmission is past the crossover to the BT router signal?

I do my best to explain it, distance to my bedroom is 2 floors router on ground floor, so the bedroom was passed the distance the smart hub 2 WiFi range,  the smart WiFi square has a Ethernet connection to it,

That smart WiFi square is repeating the same WiFi as the rest of the house has, I think as the 2 WiFi signals are not overlapping it works

i have do it with another but then can’t get a connection on WiFi, hence my thinking the mesh side does not work

anything I missed just let me know

@Bluenose_Dave Thanks for the reply, you nailed the explanation, it is really good to know that the possibility to get one device working past and leaving a dead spot as long as it is ethernet backhauled, that was what i was trying to find out, just got to sort out now if it would be ok if connected, ie oob set up possibly via ethernet as reported compatible that they do not work with each other. Just when i seen the post, with trying the second on, there was issues...
