How to fix your phone or tablet if it’s giving you trouble

If your device isn’t working, you can follow some simple steps to try to fix it yourself. If these don’t work, we can get it repaired for you.

First step: DIY

A lot of device problems can be fixed quickly and easily without needing an expert to repair them. You may want to try one or some of these before you get in touch with us:

  • Switch your device on and off

  • Check for software updates

  • Close down all the apps open on your phone

  • Switch Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS off if you have a problem with your battery

  • Do a hard reset - known as a factory reset or master reset. (Note: this gets rid of all the settings and apps you’ve added since you got the device. Pictures, documents, music and so on stored on the device will be lost too so ensure they're backed up before you do a hard reset.)

Our handy troubleshooter tool

We’ve also developed an easy-to-use troubleshooter tool lets you search for your device and gives you answers to the most common things that can go wrong with it.

The tool also lets you search for an answer to your problem if it’s not included in the most common ones.

Still no joy?

If you’re still struggling, we can get your device repaired – it’s free if your warranty’s valid and covers the fault.

The length of your warranty period will depend on the manufacturer of your device. Find out using our troubleshooter tool or call us.

If you’ve had the device for less than 30 days, we’ll give you a new device. We can also fix some out-of-warranty faults - up to £200.

We have a handy Help page with more details, but feel free to comment below if you have questions too!
