@kaifitz06  is this a contract or pay-as-you-go Sim ?  If it’s a pay-as-you-go you need to at least make one chargeable call every three months to keep it activated after the three month period if it’s not been used you don’t get a further three months to call customer services to get it reactivated if it’s gone over the six month period then usually the Sim card is fully deactivated and you’re going to need a new Sim card and that will result in a new telephone number.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

i would assume its totally cut off as dont recall ever topping up , can i keep his number still and revert to rolling sim contract

On the assumption this is a PAYG SIM, I'd recommend reading the details of EE's hibernation policy here

The article explains the policy, the timelines of what happens when, and how to reactivate a hibernated SIM at any stage.

If the SIM has been "unused" for more than 273 days, then the number has been permanently lost.
