Want to upgrade, but cannot upgrade until march - what is the fee going to be

I need a new phone as my old one has finally died. I can't upgrade until March, so how do I work out what my upgrade fee will be if I technically break that contract early? Is it the entire remainder of that contract, or is it just the difference of like 6 weeks?

What date in March as you could be within 45 days which allows you to upgrade without a fee.

 

Log into your MyEE and go to the upgrades page it'll tell you when you can upgrade or how much if you want to upgrade now.

No, that 45 days is supposed to be 45 days before the end of contract. My contract doesn't end until September. It says I cannot upgrade when I look at the upgrade portal.

You will need to call EE for the true figure then but its months remaining on the contract minus 20% VAT

So the ENTIRE remainder of the contract, rather than just the little bit of extra time between now and March? That seems steep?

Additionally my previous plan was a sim-only, so this would be more like increasing the plan rather than a true upgrade so I'm not even sure why they're not letting me do it tbh.

Yes the entire contract as you are breaking a contract to start a new one.

 

This is the same with all networks.

 

But if this plan is a sim only you should be able to upgrade to a phone after month 6. So give EE a call and see what is happening.
