Unlock code from EE not working as not my IMEI number

I bought my PAYG phone from an EE shop a few years ago. 

I called customer services weeks ago to unlock my phone as I am moving to another network.  They said I would get a code within 10 days.  I was very impressed to get a code within a couple of hours but it didn't work and when I re-read the email, the IMEI number in the email was nothing like the one I had given them.  Called customer services again on 14th April and was told I would get a new code but but I am STILL waiting.  My EE plan is due to be renewed tomorrow which I am not willing to do.  I am not happy at all.
