Trying to play WGT golf on my new laptop but I get the following:
error 8, the proxy failed to connect to the web server, due to TCP connection rejection (tcp reset)
any help or ideas would be appreciated

I'm a member of the RAC. Does that qualify?
Does the OP & other users of this site know what an "AAAA record" is & what's its consequence? Consider your readership & stop showing off with things you are ignorant of.

Non-technical summary: IPv6 currently seems to have no relevance to this thread.

OK, @mikeliuk , if you cba'ed. The absence of an 'AAAA' record means the site does not support IPv6 but only IPv4. As the EE network's dual IPV6/IPv4 does not fall back to IPv4 nicely, IPV6 is coming into play & my Q & suggestion earlier is v. pertinent to this thread.

Quite often firewalls can be an issue when playing on games. You might not see the firewall popup due to the game running in full screen.
a tcp reset error is an abrupt interruption, so something is cutting you off
just thinking about basic easy stuff here.
a first thing to try is to temporarily disable your windows firewall or 3rd party firewall, where possible don’t use a vpn or intermediate proxy server
windows won’t like you disabling your firewall so it’s not likely you will forget to enable it later.
Another solution could be to look at your antivirus software, but one step at a time
