I left EE for plusnet a few weeks ago (mistake they do not have VOLTE so cant make calls despite excellent 4g signal) When can I rejoin?  I'd like to now but my order is declined

Hi @Rob195

I seem to recall assisting you with a coverage query a while back. I can't help you with the contract query, but by means of info...

I've recently got back from a spot of island hopping which included Harris, and there are many locations there where coverage is only available on the 4G800Mhz band which is VoLTE-dependent.

EE's deployment of the low-band "extended range" service is extremely extensive across the Highlands & Islands, so your experience comes as no surprise.

Hi

I had long conversations over trying to sign up again.  I was declined, told to contact the credit reference folk equifax, more long conversations eventually discovered my credit rating was very good...went back to EE tried again, declined again and told this time it was because I had recently left EE!  I'm afraid I'm not prepared to spend another afternoon on the phone - I just want to know when I can rejoin.

The mast nearest to me at xxx xxx hasn't worked for at least a fortnight.  EE service checker says something like we are aware of a problem and are working on it....email updates say it is taking longer than expected....and so on.

[mod edit: please do not post personal information on the public board. Thanks!]

Hi @Rob195,

Did the sales team check if they could reconnect your old account?

Not that I'm aware.  The second person I spoke to said that it looked like my account was still active but after speaking to his manager came back and said I could rejoin yet...but didn't know when I could.

I travelled through South Uist and Benbecula today where I got a very good 4g+ (what's the +) all the time and was able to make and receive calls with my Plusnet sim.  I'm guessing that making a call causes a "hop" to any 3g or 2g that might be available.

Problem here on Barra is that whilst the 4g coverage is fair to excellent nearly everywhere there is little 2 or 3g so my Plusnet sim without VOLTE is useless.

Hi @Rob195

Multiple factors go into the decision around customers joining us, including their history if they've been with us before and their external credit health.

I'm afraid we're unable to give you a timescale as it would be a guess.

Thanks

Chris

The "4G" & "4G+" indicators are very much handset-dependent and can be misleading in real-world use.

If you don't have a VoLTE compatible device, you will still connect to all 4G sites where there is overlapping 2G (1800Mhz) and/or 3G (2100Mhz) coverage. Your data will be carried over 4G, and your voice calls will drop back to 2G/3G depending on the site config.

The vast majority of 4G-1800Mhz coverage has overlapping 2G/3G, so all devices can access this. All of EE's 800Mhz coverage is VoLTE only, potentially without the ability to use 2G/3G fallback (known as "CSFB"). Hence not being available to non-VoLTE devices.

If I recollect accurately, some patches of Lochboisdale are 2G/3G only. But the 800Mhz service is extensively deployed.
