Phone wont take voicemails - iphone

Help, my phone wont go to voicemail when someone rings. I have set up a personalised message and activated it and turned phone off and on again but it still wont go to voicemail. Please help

Hi @Nataliasmith 

On the assumption that you're using standard voicemail and not Apple visual voicemail...

Try texting VM OFF to 150, wait for the confirmation then text VM ON to 150. Once confirmed, restart your phone as a precaution and retry.

Presumably you can call your voicemail ok?

Going back to the old days of Nokias there was an option to turn off your voicemail in settings. Ive had an iphone since day dot and always wanted to turn off my voicemail but didn’t think i could. Now its off and i wont get the unnecessary messages from certain people , that I usually say “i rang but you didn’t answer”. Erm... yes i know, its on my missed calls 🤨
