Pay as you go sim

I have bought a pay as you go sim from an ee shop for an electric gate system but the number is not registered on the network.  Can I do this online?

@dazzah69  Can you put the sim in a phone so it can activate?  

 Just to check you do know about EE using packs for PAYG to give you a monthly allowance and the sim needs to make a chargeable call/text every 3 months to keep it activated?

PAYG don't need to use monthly Packs unless you need to use data. You can just top-up & make calls & texts at per-unit standard rates.
