Issues connecting Nest cameras to Huawei router when EE sim installed

Hi all, new here and hoping this will (1) make sense, and (2) be something that can be fixed!

I have a Huawei B525s-23a 4G router that, until recently, I was running on a sim from Three. I had all my Nest cameras attached to it, among other things. I recently joined EE as I saw better speed, and got an unlimited mobile sim (as I read elsewhere on here that you can use it in a router as long as you conform to the FUP of being under 1,000Gb per month). When connecting to that router, I do get some internet (and some strong speeds) when running speed tests, however, these speed tests often take 30-60 seconds to start before returning a ping of about 23 and then showing me good speeds between 100 and 200Mbps.

That said, I go into my Nest app and all my cameras are offline. I put the Three sim back in and they all come back up; I put the EE sim back in and they’re offline. I tried to go through the pairing again of the cameras to the WIFI router and it fails out every time it comes to the WIFI testing stage.

Any idea what might be causing this, or what I could try to get around it? I may need to cancel my EE and live with my Three connection.

Many thanks in advance

Martin

On the APN / Profile Settings, you cannot change or edit the the Settings whilst that Profile is currently in use, try adding or creating a new APN Profile to your required Settings, Save / Set as Default / Reboot Router.

Personally I do not use User and Password Settings on any Network, never have, I just leave those two fields empty.

Many thanks, @EssexBoyEE.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to change the IPv4/IPv6 settings.

I sense it's time for a new router, to rule that out. Maybe it's an older model that isn't talking so well with today's service. Time for some shopping!

I did previously try creating a new profile, but it would drop the internet out altogether when I removed "everywhere" from the APN field.

Edit: last time I tried entering "IPv4" into that APN field, which resulted in no internet altogether. I had to type "everywhere" into it for it to go back online.

Sorry but why are you trying the remove "everywhere" ?

It was recommended that I change the APN to IPv4, but the only reference I could see to APN was that field that had "everywhere" in by default.

I can't see anywhere else to change IPv4/IPv6 settings. Rookie trial and error really ! 😄

You cannot edit a profile in use, see my post a few posts up about creating a new profile.

Yep, already tried that. Created a new profile previously, and even tried creating a new one without the user and password credentials (rebooting after each profile creation and switch).

Still no joy, unfortunately.

Did you set it as Default before the Reboot

  1. I told you previously that the APN Profile Name field isn't the APN Protocol field that caters for IPV4 or IPv6. So why are you trying to change it from "everywhere"? You've gone off at a tangent.
  2. A data SIM will work in a mobile phone.

It was a case of trial and error out of desperation and frustration.

It doesn’t work, and I’m now waiting for new ideas. I’m new to all this, so I’ll have a tendency to follow rabbit holes, unfortunately.

I’ve ordered a new router and will try that. Once it arrives, I’ll see if I the problem persists; if it does, I’ll see if I can control the IPv4/IPv6.

If I still have no joy, I’ll cancel the contract and return to Three. Losing the plot with it all tbh; it should be as simple as it is with Three. I shouldn’t be made to work in order to utilise a service that they want to increase adoption to.
