Google Nest Audio - making phone calls

I am thinking about buying a Google Nest Audio smart speaker.  I would like to know whether I will be able to make 'phone calls on it, other than through the Duo app.  I have an Android phone with an EE SIM on contract - wifi calling enabled.  Grateful if you would let me know whether you have tried this and how it went.  Look forward to hearing from you you and thank you for your interest.
