The reason you got a text saying you've used up all your Giftable Data, is because Giftable Data gets used up first on your Unlimited Plan, no matter how you use your Data, ie, Phone, Tether, Hotspot etc.

On your Unlimited Plan you get 100gb of Gift Data (or 120gb depending on UL Plan), so on the first day of your monthly allowance refresh you have say 100gb and you use for example 60gb on your own phone, then you have 40gb of Giftable Data left, carry on and use another 25gb of Data and now you have 15gb of Data left that you can Gift, when you reach your first 100gb of use then your done, no more Giftable Data left now untill the next month.

So if you are a high Data User, best to Gift some or all of your Giftable Data on the first Day of your monthly allowance refresh Date.

No, gifting data is not hotspotting but giving data to another no. on your a/c. You may carry on hotspotting.

Hello, What a  great Question ??

with my  limited knowledge of  "gifting "  is done when you

mobile number 1   with    200GB  data   send  a    " text or something slimmer "  to   a different  mobile  number

mobile 1  with  200GB   send ->>   15GB    to  mobile  number  2  the results should be

Mobile1  now has  185 GB of data

Mobile 2  now has  15 Gb  of data

your  hot spot on your mobile  works the same way  as connecting to  your home WiFi,

all the  data goes through your phone  so it would look like  are Surfing  on your phone

Good morning,

Does the monthly gifted data remain on the device receiving it or does the gifted data be deleted each month on the tablet receiving the gifted data? Basically if I gift 30GB this month does it stays available on the tablet or should I again make another gift of 30GB the next month? I hope I made it easy to understand 😉

Hi @empf2019,

Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂

Each time you gift data, it is on a one-off basis which doesn't recur each month automatically.

Find out more in How do I gift my data and set controls?

James

Thanks James,

However I could do gift it myself on a monthly basis even though it is not recuring automatically from the EE customer portal or my EE App?

Thank you,

Kind regards,

Yes, you can @empf2019 🙂

I don’t think this is right if paying for an Unlimited Plan

We go camping through the year and have just noticed we now can’t gift our daughter any data because I’ve used all the ‘gifting allowance’ while tethering my iPhone to my non cellular iPad.

I don’t understand why EE does this, is there any special reason we use the gifting allowance first when a customer has an unlimited allowance?

Why are customers not using their unlimited allowance in every case, so when they DO need to gift, then the pot is there to give, seems very unfair with the costs we are paying.

I thought that was the whole point of a gifting allowance, was to gift…not use first hand!
