Hi,
About two month ago I bought the unlimited data plan 4g data. I bought this because my home WiFi was very slow and I needed to access my university computer using cloud service. Unfortunately, although I obtain high speeds on the speed tests, the latency is always high. I need a latency below 30ms to comfortably use the cloud computers. Will inserting my phone sim into the 4gee WiFi help? Will it reduce latency? I have really good EE coverage to my house. If that doesn’t work, what other student budget friendly solution is there?

Hi @Iseeu12362,
Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂
Your phone SIM would perform exactly the same as your 4GEE WiFi SIM. Does the coverage checker show any problems in your area?

thanks for your reply. No there are no coverage issues, just high latency (50ms). I need something below 30ms.

Hi @Iseeu12362,
If there aren't any current network issues, it may not be possible to improve your current latency.
Our Tech Gurus will be happy to take a more detailed look if you get in touch.
Thanks

I think you are being rather optimistic.
Lag of 50ms isn't high at all. If I remember correctly, typical lag on an ADSL connection is around 20-70ms. Around 30ms is as fast as it is realistic to get....only very good connections would be lower than 30ms.
I don't really understand why you think you need latency under 30ms to effectively use cloud computers? Latency only really matters when you need to get a very quick initial response from a server (e.g. playing games). Pushing or pulling data will be more dependent on bandwidth.
