Hello hello,
I dont have WiFi at home. I survive very well with my partner on two sim only deals, 100gb of data each per month. Each month we are left with approx 15-25gb at the end of the month. I'm not usually one to complain but I've noticed something I cant ignore or put down to my own netflix binges.
Our data reset on 29/10/21. Since then we have watched 5 hours of netflix on standard quality, which netflix have informed us should have taken 5gb maximum. Netflix have confirmed this is the amount we have watched over a service they provide emailing you your stats.
Unfortunately its taken out over 5gb on my partners EE account and just under 7gb on my own. How is it possible that we could have used more than double what we should have, when we've done everything right and double checked it?
This is the normal amount of streaming for us week on week, and somehow we have used almost the same amount of data we would use in a month for just under one week.
I explained this to an EE advisor on the phone, and was met by quite a defensive response, breaking down exactly what my data was used on, but not why so much more was taken for what is a very similar level of streaming to the norm.
If there is anyone who can help me to clarify how much I've actually used, if theres any errors in the MYEE app at the moment, or if its me to blame and I'm missing a screw that would be much appreciated.

Hi @Ajcj97,
Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂
What type of device do you use to watch Netflix? If the display supports HD, it'll consume up to 3GB per hour.

Hi @Ajcj97 ,
The amount of data used when streaming depends on the content and the quality of the stream selected. For example, a movie with very little movement and lots of black screens will take less data than a movie with very fast movement and intricately detailed photography. 4K and HDR will use more data than HD or SD.
There will be ways to monitor data usage on your devices such as the below. And if I hit the information "i" button for my TV, I can see live Netflix bandwidth usage in Mbps.
It's not really the business of the service provider how you use your data allowance and I've found that when comparing the data I see in a Netgear MR1100 and Opnsense firewall that the data usage matches fairly well with the count given by EE online and in its app, contrary to reports on here that such counters are inaccurate for home broadband. Good luck!
