The £6.98 is a delivery fee, and it wouldn’t have ever/should have ever been for guaranteeing delivery. 

However, I’m too in a similar situation, where I have had 2 adviser’s guarantee delivery for today and that was also yesterday. I’ve been with EE for over 10 years and done the pre launches before with 0 issues and I have to say this is the first time for myself they’ve f’ed up with their guarantee.

I asked this morning as I didn’t feel reassured with the adviser yesterday and have been told I’m expected the latest next Friday. 
I’ve gone for the silver pro max at 256gb.

They don’t always apply the fee, but it’s specifically for delivery. They’ll usually waive it if you push back, and they’ll revoke it if you complain about a late delivery. Ultimately, it’s just a standard delivery charge.
