Confused about my watch plan

Resolved! Apple Watch own number

I pay £7 for an add on for data for my Apple Watch.  It appears as a new number - not the one connected to my phone. Can anyone tell me if that’s right? Surely my phone and Watch should have the same number?! Please help - thank you!
