As someone technically 'excommunicated' for almost four years in the hands of a cyberkidnapper, I often visit tech stores to ask about new technologies and to try and resolve the cyberkidnap issue (ongoing, possibly military or police - unknown reasons). Today, I spoke with Jess at the EE store Bedminster Bristol (East Street) and asked her about the Watch6 by Samsung. I understand I could not, even if I was rescued, have a smartwatch through EE for 30 days unless I was an EE customer already, which I technically am, though my EE sims were hacked along with all my other sims (I most recently had an EE sim in Leeds Yorkshire, Januaruy 2024 which hardly worked at all and expired after a month - I could not log back in to my account due to hacking/blocking). In technological terms, I was asking about touchscreen responsiveness, impressed with the speed of function on the device, and interested to know which biometric data is collected in terms of health monitoring (is human pulse considered biometric data?). I wondered too how robust the screen is and what happens if replacement or repair is needed, are screen protectors still required or have we moved beyond the fragility of screens as I knew them prior to the cyberkidnap situation (pre-2021) in watches. I have been without functioning tech, including TV, computer etc since the hacking in 2021 when I had a Samsung A20e on contract at the time which was a basic smartphone, an account/phone that someone cloned and I am still fighting for my identity back to this day. Previously I was a frequent user of tech and read about it from a research perspective for a PhD I was beginning, in terms of human interaction with ever decreasingly scaled technologies (arts/philosophy/psychology) though since the hacking I have become more interested in the risk and ethics element of technology and how humans might be protected rather than harmed in future. Mine would be a useful case study possibly for researchers as it is unique as far as I am aware, to be digitally hidden for over three years in the UK.

Welcome to the EE Community, @JulieBedminster 🙂
Our store team were correct it saying you'd need an EE pay monthly account to take out a watch plan.
If you already have an EE account, but are locked out of it, please get in touch on 07953 966 150 and our Mobile Guides will be able to help you reset it.

@JulieBedminster I highly recommend a screen protector on a watch. My Apple watch after an airline separation and me lifting my arm to cover my face, As you can see I also have a case on the watch which was also impacted.
after removing the screen protector and case
New screen protector got fitted and the case back on.
oh and I have insurance also but if you get one and have insurance you’ll receive a replacement device they do not fix watches they are returned to the manufacturer to get taken apart to be repaired by them.
