What's the query you have with Android Auto? You've not explained.

@Philt55  Does your car support wireless Android auto ?   This is a car manufacturer issue if it does and doesn’t work.

Not able to connect via cable, usb unstable. Tried various cables and tried 4 other phones.  The other phones work ok but mine doesn't

Tony, I’ve used wired and wireless Android Auto extensively, and for the last year wired CarPlay. New car on order will have wireless charging, so currently considering a wireless CP dongle. Crucially, it’ll have to offer easy and reliable switching when there’s more than 1 iPhone in the car.

Most cars supplied with AA/CP work via a wired connection. It has the advantage of supplying power so that the charge is maintained whilst running Waze, Spotify etc. The phone has to support the app and the cable has to support power and data transfer. In my experience phone manufacturers cables work best.

Neither Apple nor Google/android offer OEM wireless dongles, so we’re talking third party devices with variable efficacy. They all can only work with an existing wired system. They cannot add AA/CP to a car which doesn’t have it already.

There are many variables in play here and I cannot see this is an EE issue.

That said, I’d be happy to help further if you DM me. Would be good to know the car, the dongle, and the phone.

I can connect wireless but need cable connection to get maps, etc to work.  My old samsung a12 worked great, upgraded a few weeks ago to the a16. Think I'll be sending it back. When connected with cable it says usb unstable, but as I mentioned I have tried different cables and anothern four phones and they all work ok

You haven’t taken it off the forum but whatever. I don’t know whether the wired AA/CP option was a car maker fit or after market. If car maker that *ought* to work, but you’ll get no guarantee with a third party wireless dongle. Google and Apple just don’t make them.

I can’t speak to Samsung. On the android side I only ever had Nexus/Pixel (Google) phones which I used with Google Store leads. Worked fine. The AAWireless dongle I got later  (connected by its cable to the car’s designated AA socket) worked too but could not offer an easy switch if more than 1 Pixel phone was in the car. So I sold it, and went back to plugging the phone we wanted on the car’s screen to the car socket via USB A cable.

I cannot explain why certain apps are supported via the wireless dongle but nav apps need a cable connection. That makes no sense to me. 

Anyhoo, not an EE issue. Even if they supplied the phone they could not guarantee it works with third party kit in all circumstances. Personally I’d abandon the idea of wireless AA and concentrate on a decent spec current android phone coupled with a Google Store cable and get that working - with the added advantage of supplying charge to the phone.
