Pixel 9 Network Settings Menu

Hi,

Does the Network/Sim Settings Menu on the Google Pixel 9 (pro) allow you to Disable 5G, leaving it just as 4G?

I ask as there has always been a "bug" with the Pixel 6, whereby the EE Sim card removes this option from the network menu, and then phone sticks on 5G with no or very low data,  and doesn't automatically drop to 4G.

I want to be 100% sure it does before upgrading to a 9, and my local store couldn't demo this to me as the store phones have no network card in them, just wifi.

Thanks!

Disappointing to hear that the Pixel 9 does the same thing. You would have thought EE  would have fixed it in time since Pixel 6. I was aware of the "hidden" tech menu option, but this is a pain to fiddle with, when a simple 5G On/Off in the main menu would allow quick and easy solution to when 5G sits there stuck on no data and want temp toggle it off. Odd also its only the EE Sim that removes the option from.Pixel phones.

Might now consider a different phone, maybe Samsung, or change to different provider with a Pix 9.

Thanks again for help.

The removal of the "network type" menu is SIM-driven, but allowed by the device-SW.

All the (non-5G) Android phones in our household are the same - 4G preferred and no option to change it.

Hi,

Thanks for reply, but I'm not sure if understand correctly.

I realise the available menu options are Sim driven, its the EE sim in my Pixel 6 that's removing the 5G Disable option. If put a different provider sim in my 6, the option reappears. (And i deed an EE Sim in a Samsung phone for example keeps this option).

So trying to find out if an EE Sim in the new Pixel 9 Pro, will also remove the 5G Disable option from menu, or has EE "fixed" this.

Not sure how your point on 4G phones, as Pixels 6-9 are 5G/4G.

Cheers,

Nick

My point is that it may not be an issue needing "fixing" in EE's eyes. When our phones were factory-fresh, they had various options for network-type - from memory, 2G, 2G/3G or fully-auto.

The non-4G options were removed about a year ago, and there's now no mechanism for anything other than fully auto. Whether that's 4G or 5G is therefore down to device type, but the principle is very likely the same.

I've checked this on 3 different models of Samsung Galaxy.

But this still doesnt answer my question, which was if I upgrade to a Pixel 9 Pro, of course with an EE sim card, will there  be a menu option to Disable 5G?

Not sure why you talk about non-4G options being removed from phones, that's 5G?

Hi @NickRF1

is there any reason you're looking 5G on your phone?

If you don't hve 5G in your area just yet then your phone will automatically switch to 4G.

Rach

Thanks, bit my question wasn't about if I want 5G or not.

I wanted to know if the Disable 5G option in Network Settings menu was there on a Pixel 9 Pro, or if the EE Sim card still deletes that menu option from the phone (like it does with my Pixel 6).

Someone must have one of these phones and could check, or was hoping an EE rep on here would confirm.

Hi,

I had the same issue with the EE SIM on my Pixel 6 Pro. It was a particular issue with the EE SIM only.

Eventually, I was able to talk to tech support, who suggested a short code to dial where I had the scope to switch off 5G.

I have a Pixel 9 Pro as well, and the same thing is still there, but I am not bothered by it.

I found the code.

Dial  *#*#4636#*#*

Under network settings choose LTE/////

NR is 5G, I assume.

Thank you.

Thanks!
