So basically I've sold a phone on eBay and this person I've sold it too is saying that he's tried to put a SIM in but the phones network is locked and he needs some sort of code, I am really confused about all of this as I have no clue what to do about it

He can just apply for unlocking by using the Unlocking your device form and giving its IMEI no., which he can obtain by dialling *#06# into its keypad.
To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone
