Google Pixel 4a Voicemail no longer working

Hi.  I've recently discovered that calls are no longer going to voicemail.  It used to work OK and I'm not aware of having changed anything.  I've tried texting VM ON to 150 but keep getting this message: Sorry, we're having some trouble completing your request at the moment.  I really need VM to work!  Any advice would be gratefully received.
