Poor signal on Pro Box but good signal on Mini box

I'm pretty confused. We just signed up to EE TV a few days ago. Both boxes are connected by WiFi though I am looking to buy some Powerline adapters.

The Pro Box is on the same floor as the router, probably about 5m away in a straight line with no walls between. The Mini Box is up 2 flights of stairs at the opposite end of the house.

The Pro Box doesn't seem to get good signal on live TV. The picture and sound regularly breaks up on HD channels. Sometimes to the point it is unwatchable. The Mini Box has good signal (despite the box saying it is weak) and never seems to break up on HD channels.

I'm hoping the Powerline sorts it out otherwise I'll be cancelling in the cooling off period. But just wanted to know if it is normal for mini boxes to work better than the pro box or if there are any settings to change or other changes that may help.

Thanks!

It's not normal @mattybake

Could there be issues with interference around your TV Box Pro?  e.g. are you using the HDMI cable that came with the box - unshielded cables can cause havoc with signals.  Anything else around it that can cause issues?  Fairy lights?  Cheap transformers for other devices?  Is the TV Box Pro hidden behind or stacked on top of any other equipment?

I suggest, as a short experiment, swapping the Pro and Mini boxes over (just the boxes, and the power supplies if different, keep the HDMI cables where they are). See if the problem moves with the Pro box, or stays with the location.

If it stays with the location, then keeping the boxes in their swapped locations for the minute, swap the HDMI cables and see if it moves with one of those.

And please let us know your findings.

Thanks Darren. It was in an open cabinet shelf but I moved it to the top of the cabinet and still having issues. Using the EE HDMI cable that came with the box.

There are a few other devices around the same area - Surround sound system and subwoofer and a PS4 so guess it might be these causing an issue. I did a test moving it just 1 metre away from these which seemed to resolve the problems however it's not great if the box doesn't work properly around other electronic devices that lots of people will keep next to their EE box.

Currently trying a Powerline adapter that was delivered today so hopefully that stops the issues

I have a good signal on both the pro box and 2 minis but the picture quality on live tv on the pro box is so poor.   No issues with the mini boxes.  Tried everything. I plug the Ariel into the tv the pic is perfect. Plug into the pro box and it’s crap.

Make sure that whatever picture settings you have for broadcast on the TV are replicated on the HDMI In the Box Pro is using.
