New to EE TV - a few issues

I am trialling EE TV with a view to ending my 23 year relationship with Sky, and I can't say I'm too impressed so far.

Now, some of these may be fixable, and if so, any help appreciated.

1) Can't easily skip adverts on ITV recordings, although I realise this can be avoided if I use the box in hybrid aerial/internet mode.

2) on the iPhone/iPad app, there does not seem to be a way of watching channels like BBC1, Sky Sports, etc.

3) can't watch recordings on the app, or make them.

4) the mini-box seems to be a standalone device with no connection to main box, so no access to recordings etc.

5) the 'What's On now' live TV bar only highlights SD channels, so seems like a waste of time.

6) only seem to get surround sound from Sky channels, not on BBC1, etc.

7) if I select a programme to 'series record', all versions of the programme, e.g. on +1 channels, get recorded.

Any help or comments on this would be appreciate.  At the moment, I am thinking of returning to Sky.

I've already said - it's in their best interests to make you use their catch up players instead. They have nothing to gain by allowing their content to be shared by any other means.

@imacken

You won’t find any statute law against it. But EE TV and content providers sign contracts that govern how EE TV distribute that content, and the practice you describe is forbidden by those contracts, so if EE TV were to carry it out, it would be breach of contract (and you will find contract law on the statutes), and lead to anything from financial penalties to the content provider no longer being willing to provide their content to EE TV.

Perhaps the question you should be asking is “Cui malo?” i.e. who would be hurt if EE TV were allowed to do this, and in what way?

Thats the question I asked when my Yamaha soundbar wasn’t allowed to pass UHD video to my TV because the soundbar wasn’t at the latest HDCP level, so I had to split the video off at the UHD player and pass it direct to the TV. The bad guys have kit to defeat the protection anyway, but the good guys have to suffer 😢

Thanks again, guys.

Sorry this is dragging out, but I'm not asking about or doubting the legal side of things, and nor am I asking about catch-up players. I'm simply asking what objection the content owners have with watching a legally recorded  - not watching on catch-up - programme in another room via a linked box to the original recording?

It's beyond me to think of why they feel threatened by this or what possible reasoning they might have.

As an aside, if they did force you onto their catch-up apps, that would be another thing, but as things stand they allow recording from the live schedule. I am struggling with the logic of why I can't watch a recorded programme on the mini-box, yet I could watch the exact same programme on BBC iPlayer on it. (I'm talking here about the principle, not how practical that is!)

I don't understand why you don't understand what I'm saying @imacken

Their objection is just that they don't want you to - they want you to use their player instead.  If you could watch the recording from the other box, you wouldn't use their catch up player - thus they don't get to get the statistics from you watching it, or have the ability to advertise all their other content to you.  They can't currently stop you recording from Freeview, but if that was an option to them, I'm sure they'd do that too.

Thanks for all your help on this.

Let's leave it there, as I don't think you're understanding what I am asking.  Probably down to my wording!

@imacken

Let’s try a schoolboy football analogy. It’s their rules, and if you don’t like them, they are going home, and they are taking the ball, as it’s their ball.

I think your problem is assuming they will act like grown-ups😛

Hi, I to am new to EE and changed from Sky thinking I was getting a better deal . This is not so .

The broad band buffers alot, the recordings end abruptly, before the programs have completely finished /,this is frustrating when a cliff hanger is imminent.

Every time I go online I have entre a second time.

On the whole I wish I had stayed with Sky.

Yes, Sky had that very useful (customisable) option of defaulting recordings to 2 minutes before start and after end.

Hi,

I am in exactly the same situation and not impressed either..however,with regard to the mini box recording issue..if select record on a programme you want to watch, on the mini box,if the programme will be available on demand it will record it on your mini box MyTv but will not show on your main box..weird,so if you know you are going watch something on the mini box tv that should do it..I also have volume reduction issues..and watch my Sport etc on my iPad through Now tv which is part of my new subscription..hope this helps a bit..Pete

@PRKing

Box Minis can’t record, period.

Where are you getting this misinformation from?
