ITV Channels

Hi,

I'm new to EE TV and have a question. Why do I need to register with ITV just to watch there Freeview channels? Of all the different providers I have had for my TV I have never had to register and sign in to watch what I would class as Freeview channels.

Thanks

Thanks for all your responses. It was in fact the wee box that I had so I signed up for ITVX today and all the channels are showing now.

It is probably because you have set it up in IP mode and the app needs to know in your location in order to show the correct itv1 channel or if it should be STV etc. as the channels are streamed over the internet.

It is part of the process and there is no privacy issues.

You can create an itvx account for free if you don't have one.

On the other hand if you want your box to act as a Freeview box just insert the aerial into the rear of the TV pro if that is what you have and reset the box and choose to have aerial channels.

If you the edge box (formerly called the mini box) or EE apple TV box there is no alternative.

ITV have a legal obligation to provide their channel to everyone via the TV aerial (Freeview), and they can't enforce any specific rules on it - so you don't need to sign in anywhere to view it.

They don't have an obligation to provide it as an internet channel, so when EE TV wants to offer their channels in internet mode, EE TV must follow whatever conditions ITV specify.

Their conditions require EE TV to force login, and block the skipping of ads. This allows them to personalise the ads specifically to you, based on the account you sign in with and the conditions you agree to on that account - the same as when you watch their channels in their apps. If you opt out of ad personalisation, then the ads you see will be generic.

The TV region you receive is based on the postcode associated with the TV subscription, not the account you sign in with.

Hi Weerab2024,

Thanks for your reply. I think it is the edge box I have as it is a wee thing. Will have a look when I get home and then follow your instructions.

Thanks

@MeToo2 yes probably best just to login to the itvx account or create an account if you don't have one as there is no aerial input socket for the edge box.

As Darren has advised this is to stop you fast forewarding through ads and give you relevant ones for you, and it's a contractual agreement that EE must adhere to.

Hi @MeToo2

I believe that the ITVX sign in during setup is  to enable the ITV IP channel as welll as the ITVX app itself.

You will also during setup be asked to agree to Youview terms and Conditions.

I’ve got EETV via an Apple TV and I had to relogin to ITVX before it would stream ITV channels.  I assume there was an ITVX app update.
