We have recently had full fibre installed and a EE tv box pro. It all seems very good until you try to watch live tv ... say BBC 1 or a Sky Sports football coverage as part of the Full Works package. Coverage freezes repeatedly. Coming out of coverage and going back in results in freezing again and again with about 4 minutes between faults. I have contacted EE technicians and they tell me that it is a known fault. They claim to be working on a fix. We are beginning to think this was all a costly mistake and we should cancel our contract.
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

Agreed @ColumRitchie - it is a problem.
I'm not saying it's freezing because it's not connected to a BT/EE line, but they are totally unsupportable in that state. We have no way to diagnose what could possibly be wrong with it, and obviously there won't be any warranty on it for it to be swapped if it is genuinely faulty.
We have no known faults that would cause the box to "freeze" though. IP channels stopping is a known issue, but that won't be affecting you.

@ColumRitchie Any updates to EE TV boxes will not be pushed out to that box. Your own your own when you have an issue with this and I’m sorry to say you’ll get no support from EE with any problems you have with that box. It’s not yours and it could be argued you’ve purchased stolen property as the person who sold you this had no right to sell it as it wasn’t theirs to start with.

Whilst the contractual status and ownership of the boxes supplied as part of an EETV contract is clear , it is not proven that the all the new boxes sold on the grey market have come from that route. So references to stolen property at this stage is I suggest not appropriate.
I suspect that boxes will continue to get updates even if they are connected to other broadband suppliers. This is what has occurred in the past for YouvIew boxes , ie you get the upgrades rolled out relevant to the hardware you are using BUT the box HOME page and the available Apps and channels /features shown are based on on the ISP that is used to connect to Youview.

@zulu17 Any box that’s not supplied by EE to the end user and is sold by a 3rd party that has no legal right to sell that box ( only EE supply these boxes to end users ) is selling items they don’t own. what would you call selling something that you don’t own .
Selling something you do not own is generally termed consignment if authorized by the owner, dropshipping if acting as a retailer for a third party, or short selling in financial markets.
Without authorisation or legal right, it is generally considered fraud, illegal, or falling under the legal principle of nemo dat quod non habet.
only EE offer these branded EE boxes to EE TV subscribers anything else is

You can disagree as much as you like but no 3rd party seller of EE TV boxes has the right to sell what they don’t own.
