EE TV Box Pro switch on

EE TV Box Pro switch on via  Mitchell & Brown TV   -   JB-43QLED1811      (purchased November 2023)

A few months ago I amended my BT broadband contract to allow me to access Sky sports package (via Now TV and a EE TV Box Pro). Ever since I have had difficulty in what should be the basic action of switching the TV on. I do not believe there to be an M&B TV fault, rather a EE Box fault OR my misunderstanding how to switch on. If there is no fault with my box then I should be given clearer instructions in the switch-on process (not given in the basic user guide).

My latest assumed method is :-

  1.              I have the aerial plugged into the EE Box, not the TV, to access by broadband.
  2.              The TV is not switched off, rather in standby mode.
  3.              The EE Box remote control is in charge, not the TV control.
  4.              After the EE Box has been switched off (pressed for a few seconds) and remained off for a while, I switch on again (pressed for a few seconds) and switch on the TV. This sometimes works but not always!
  5.              If it remains off, I try step 2 again – sometimes it works but not always.
  6.              If necessary, have a stiff drink, throw something at the TV and try pressing buttons at random.

Please help!         Advise me of a foolproof way of ensuring the process works very time.

Or is the EE Box faulty?

Presume the aerial  cable goes to  the EE box, then another out to the TV? Coax TV aerial can't do switching instructions, so do you also have the two connected by HDMI?

I think HDMI is brilliant at passing high quality vision and sound along but its switching capabilities can be random between different brands. Not familiar with M&B TV's. What does it say about HDMI switching in its settings?

Have you turned on CEC on your TV?

Note that the above talks about using the TV remote to control other devices (and this may or may not happen) but we are doing it here to get the TV to respond to the EETV box being turned on, with the trigger coming over the HDMI connection, and not from any remote.

There isn’t anything you have to do on the EETV Box as regards CEC (and there isn’t anything you can do anyway 😛)

But if the above isn’t enough, go to Settings/Bluetooth Remote on the Box, and ensure Control Volume and Source is set to TV, not Set Top Box.

Try this and report back.
