Hi all

Apologies if this has been asked before

I currently have EE TV on Apple TV 4K and using a Wifi 7 EE Hub Pro router, looking at changing over to a 3rd party router (TP-Link or Asus), does anyone know if EE TV will work fine with a non-EE router like getting all the Freeview channels etc?

Cheers

Yes it will work fine as @Rich19861112 stated, this is because the Apple TV uses unicast rather than what EE Pro/mini boxes, which uses multicast and relies on the EE provided router.

I've got a TP-Link WiFi 6 E router and mines been working fine for the last few weeks, the best decision I made since joining EE.

Yes it does. I have changed my router and all is good on the ee tv app on Apple TV for freebies channels. It’s just the pro box etc that has issues with changing the router.

Very nice. I did look at getting that router but I felt a WiFi 6E router was more than enough for me at this point in time, plus the combined cost of the Archer AXE75 and extender (RE815XE) was similar to that router and coverage was more of a priority for me; I will be getting the extender next month.

Nice, yeah 6E is really all you need only just noticed the BE9300 on Amazon for 250 so I thought it was quite a good deal compared to others, but i'll check out the one you have 🙂

Yeah the BE9300 is a decent price tbh for a WiFi 7 router, I doubt you'd go wrong with that, plus the aesthetics are much better with the built in antennas, something my partner keeps moaning about on my router! 🤣

You will need to revisit the question if you add a Box Mini as a second device, which does use multicast.

Any router should work when you are using the EETV Apple TV, and will work fine with the apps on a Box Mini, but to use the EPG on a Box Mini, a third party router needs to support, and be correctly configured for, multicast.

EETV will politely decline to help you with this (and indeed, with any issue you might have which you can’t reproduce with the EE router back in place), but there are some really knowledgeable people on the Community who are happy to help in such circumstances.
