Discovery plus HD and change of TV package query

Good morning all,

Long time BT customer here (BB and TV) - recently switched over to EE (fttp) BB and TV.  When I switched I was on a deal for three months of the 'full works' TV package.  That was coming to an end so I called up and switched on Monday.

I think what surprised me was the immediate loss of the sports channels as I thought I'd paid up to 15th Jan (that's the end of the three months offer for 'full works').  I now have the 'big entertainment' package.  I'm assuming this is treated as a new order and takes effect immediately and any overpayment for previous services will be refunded (here's me thinking things might change after the offer period ended).

In the process I also lost access to Discovery HD as a live channel (I seem to just now get SD, or HD live stream via the App).  When I go to the channel on the EPG I get a 'need to add this to your package' message.

It's a shame as my previous package (up to Oct 2025) was basic entertainment with HD add on but it seems (from reading the forum), the Discovery channel is no longer included in the HD add on (just the Now channels).

Thank you in advance for any information about this.

Yes, it is frustrating that there's no way to order the HD add-on for non Now TV channels when on an EE subscription.  Unfortunately there's nothing that can be done about this at the moment. Packages are reviewed frequently, so hopefully that will be fixed later this year.

TV package changes take effect immediately, and you're refunded the difference for the time unused - that's normally considered a good thing, however I can understand why that would be disappointing in your scenario.

I believe

BT Broadband EETV customers receive Discovery HD linear channel when they have the (HD  orHD/4k)  addon in their subscription.

As Discovery is not a NOW Entertainment channel  you don't get an HD upgrade for the linear channel  with Now Boost. A seperate addon is required.

It does seem from earlier forum threads that somewhere along the line EETV have stopped providing that seperate  HD addon alongside Now Boost for some of their packages on EE Broadband.

Would be so much simpler if EETV provided the same packages for alll of BT Group EETV customers.

Thank you for the replies folks - very much appreciated.  I guess as I suspected - fingers crossed the live HD channel returns to the fold soon.
