HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS as we pay regularly, have credit on the account and the last transcation yesterday refreshed all allowances.
Reported to Action Fraud by forwarding the text to 7726.
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

And I had one this evening from 07726 289635, and reported to 7726 as suggested above. Curious that the sending number also contains 7726 ..........🤔

Purely a coincidence.
One is a mobile number of which almost any combination could be possible (after the first 3 digits), and the other is a short-code number.
It's like saying a mobile number beginning in "07999" would have something to do with 999 just because it contains that sequence of numbers.
There are such instances where this can line up however, such as EE using 150 and 07953966150 as numbers for calling Customer Services.

Pre-6am this morning, I received a text purporting to be from EE to say my latest payment had not gone through & my account was blocked. I was advised to click a link to visit my account.
I can only assume that my brain was scrambled due to the early wake up, but I clicked the link. I was taken to a website about Royal Mail (Wikipedia?) which I quickly shut down as I realised it was a scam. I then blocked & reported the text. But this has left me with no evidence & I’m worried that malware may now be on my account. What do I do??
