Hi all,
I received a call yesterday that displayed the senders number 07XXX XXXXXX. I did not answer but wanted to check who was calling me. Truecaller told me it was a genuine EE number so I called back.
The elderly Gentleman who answered confirmed he was with EE and told me he had not made any calls to my number. The Gentleman seemed quite upset and said he receives many calls from people all saying he had rung them when he hadn’t.
To help I told him I would make contact with you regarding this issue.
The question is How can the genuine senders phone number be used by scammers and how can EE stop this happening?
kind regards
xxxxxxx xxxxx

Welcome to the community.
I'm sorry to hear that this has happened to the person you spoke to. It sounds like they have been a victim of call spoofing.
Spoofed calls are not just targeting UK residents, these calls originate from all over the world. This is a worldwide problem. Both the UK and international regulators are working with the telecoms industry to solve this problem.
If this continues to happen for the user, they would need to contact us directly so that we can check their options.
